Cypherpunk - just watching this coldcard circus reminded me of my ignorant interest in paper wallets. I watched a podcast by BTC sessions where he said you can create a seed phrase with just pen and paper and dice rolls. But after getting 23 rolls -> to get the 24th he has to input all that entropy into a computer (terminal) to generate a checksum for the 24th word. I dont really understand the point-> from my simpleton point of view, if you put all the entropy generated into a terminal command in a general purpose computer, didn’t you just basically enter the seed phrase into a general purpose computer? Anyone who gets that sequence of binary entropy will be able to recreate the checksum and will be able to generate the same words? Is there some magical power that “terminal” possesses that shields it from all possible keystroke recorders or viruses or bugs?
I am a total bystander in all this. It all seems to me like self custody requires a computer science pHd and a ton of free time.
But…..but the cold card fiasco seems to be renewing interest in “dice” rolling and the path to this video will become heavily worn. It looked to me like it would be a very easy way to get into trouble.
