No tax breaks? Everyone I know who has solar has gotten tax breaks or reduced cost from the government (mostly Germans). I know people in real estate in the US that bought property only to put solar o...
yea tax break is kind of the carrot they give and take away to keep people from jumping on the opp and keep them formly on the grid i think. I have no idea if there’s a tax break because I refuse to connect to the grid, so I don’t supply any power back to the grid. So to answer the second part, i’m good in perpetuity, I have no grid connections, I have as much excess power solar as I want to store. Right now I just store 16kwh at all times, but my battery refills in just an hour or two every day, and when the sun is shining (most days here) I don’t use the battery at all. To scale this system I just buy a few more panels (120$ each) or more 16kw batteries (~$1500 each)
I think at scale it’s a complicated problem, but for strictly self sovereignty, many more people could experience greater freedoms and quality of life by trying it. Totally agree we need more nuclear.
Also interesting abt Germany, price of electric has skyrocketed since I lived there but no one I know there has adopted solar because of the permission they believe they need, and sort of being poorly informed about how cheap it is.
