interpreting it is not necessarily the same as "making it mean whatever you want". i'm sure you've read or watched more than a few mystery stories. curiosity is not a sin. central to false religions is always prohibiting curiosity.

you haven't read half of the peripheral texts associated with the same cultures and movements and even libraries from which the bible is composed. your interpretation is colored by your adherence to doctrines that you don't question.
