According to the United States Department of Energy, Donald Trump has authorized the release of 172 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve as part of a multilateral effort to stabilize global energy markets.

The oil is expected to begin flowing next week and will take roughly 120 days to fully deliver.

The release represents over 40% of the current crude supply held in the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
