I think the Terminator movies were the better outcome. I am not a doomer, but if I was, I would notice that we are not very far with robots, skeletons, etc., but AI is much smarter than 80% of humans....
AI by itself will not synthesize DNA, unless some greedy and/or irresponsible entity allows for direct ordering of samples AND said AI has the ability to interact with the physical world autonomously
