There seems to be a connection to womens' jobs. Any woman who works close to the public, like in sales, waitressing, nursing, cashiering, etc. will get hit on a lot just because of the amount of men she's exposed to and her need to be friendly. They talk to dozens or hundreds of men every day and smile at all of them.

Bookkeepers, engineers, backoffice workers, and cleaning ladies... Not so much.

The Walmart cashier meme is indicative of how delusional men can be. She gets paid to smile at you. She gets hit on all day. She's young because the job sucks and doesn't pay well, and everyone tries to get out of it, as fast as possible.

That's an interesting link between customer service jobs and people pleasing behavior. It probably trickles into the relationship and makes it harder to set boundaries and communicate directly.
