HW wallets were born because of Windows, because Windows could not be trusted. People, instead of switching to Linux, choose to continue with Windows and displace the trust to a random idiotic hardware device which is closed source as Windows is.

People have what they deserve.

Solution from the start is to use, always, without exception, full free software. If you don't, you are always at the mercy of some privative codicius moron narcisist, like NVK (but could be Bill Gates or Tim Cook, or Larry Ellison, or whatever psicopath).

Using Linux does not protect you from exploits and exfiltrations. This is coming from someone who has daily-driven linux for over a decade. Hardware wallets solve a completely different problem than what you're referring to. A hot wallet on a linux machine is still, for example, swapping your seed...
