Russia is in a tough position, hard to take any treaties the west offers seriously at this point.

A military victory wouldn't really give them that much; what they need are some kind of guarantees from the U.S. to cement the status of that victory.
That said, there isn't much trust in American promises right now. In the end, Russia stopping in Donbas would look more like just another postponement of the next hot phase of the conflict — one that would happen not under Trump, and possibly not even under Putin.
It feels like the world isn't that far from a third world war.
