Let me throw one more wild hypothesis out here (no pun intended):
War is like wildfire, the longer we try to extinguish it, the greater the final fire will be.
Very often people try to pussyfoot and just end up causing more death and destruction in the long term. War should be swift and final. Otherwise, it just drags on so long you don't even know what the fuck the goal is anymore. And you end up having soldiers fighting in it who werent even alive when it started.
My view on this is very unpopular. I think bombing Japan was moral.
