My eReader is dying. I thought I'd #asknostr if there are recommendations for a free as in freedom ereader to replace it.

As usual, I'll be zapping useful answers. Kindle and Daylight are DRM spy machines and will not be considered useful answers.

Daylight is a DRM spy machine? That's sad to hear.

It seems like the best we can do is buy a raspberry pi and and modules (e-ink screen, gsm modem, etc... ) for anything approximating "open source hardware" DIY is labor intensive tho.

How about the PineNote from Pine64? It's fully FOSS software and *some* FOSS hardware. https://pine64.org/devices/pinenote/

You can also jailbreak the kindle. Just a thought

Kobo runs on Linux and you can replace their crappy software with community-built software.

Remarkable is pretty cool. More of a notebook tool than reader perhaps.

Been using kobos for a long time and now using the Libra 2, I think it's great

Get as close to the Taiwan OEM as possible. There is one company that makes all the e-ink tech.

I recommend real books. They smell good. They feel good. Like women...
