It is a weight, which can hinder, to be sure. But like physical weights, it can hinder the weak while allowing the strong both to prove themselves, and improve their strength. It separates true nobility from the trust fund babies. Those who can wield it effectively, with magnanimity and shrewd thrift, will see their bloodlines luck improve. Those who can't will suffer the ruin of debauchery.
