you have a cost-of-living crisis and climate change both making life increasingly fraught, everywhere. at the same time, the right-wing basically controls the day-to-day media narrative, and images of brown people supposedly invading are unavoidable. multiple times, I've had random people bring up racist shit in casual conversation. literally every time I tell someone I like Paris, they shake their heads and say "oh no, Paris is lost," and you know what they mean.
