That 1.3 cups of water turned into 2.3 before it stopped looking shaggy and started looking "wet but not soup-like" and it only just stopped being a shaggy dough at that point. I didn't bother kneading it because there's no gluten to develop, and my breadmaker's paddle motor for slow churning it during the knead cycle is broken, so I threw it together in a bowl and dumped it in a well buttered breadmaker dish and let it run.
I think my yeast is dead because it's old, but I know how much those glass tinctures of yeast cost and didn't want to waste it. Probably a combination of dead, unbloomed yeast plus maybe too much water somehow.
