Is there a way to get 'ls' to recursively list all files and folders INCLUDING the files and folders within compressed archives BUT WITHOUT actually decompressing those archives?

@nprofile1q... if you want full recursion, e.g., zips within tars, or such, then no - by definition. You'll have to process beyond metadata.
