I was a 911 dispatcher for a decade. To really understand how absolutely terrible an idea it is to have AI answer 911 calls, I'll present you with a single real-life call: Upon answer, the caller...

@nprofile1q... to be fair, that is a standard ploy that any dispatcher should recognize. Duress signalling mechanisms and associated camouflage techniques are features of many security systems. If you don't think AI can handle this, particularly when the call is directed to an emergency line as a clue, you have not thought this through and you probably haven't used AI much. Police are dispatched for abandoned 911 calls for this reason. Not advocating AI here, just noting.

@nprofile1q... I was half-joking. I take your point. OTOH, the nuclear club has been quite exclusive. Perhaps a more balanced threat environment diminishes the prospects for proxy wars. OTOOH, we still see India/Pakistan/China skirmishes - not even proxy.

Does the larger threat keep escalation in check? Is an armed society a polite society? I'm not sure.

Nuclear-capable Iran seems inevitable to me, and arrogant foreign policy seems counterproductive.

@nprofile1q... perhaps I am fortunate to have never hit a jackpot? This is a very interesting analogy. In my limited experience (one), futzing with it meant discarding and rewriting it because in determining why a corner case bug existed, I was appalled by the entire coding approach. Ironically, the AI made a very human-like but naive assumption that caused the error. Burned once, now shy.

Pharmacy management unwittingly informs the public of how shitty their service is with striking condescension and threats.
