I used to think of wholesome as something your church-going grandmother could read/watch without being offended.
I think the term is coming to mean something different, at least among people I tend to interact with. I'm not quite sure how to define it, but I don't think it means G-rated. I think wholesome recognizes the inherent goodness in people, and that can come in many forms. It doesn't mean a lack of sexual content, or seeing the world through rose-colored lenses. I think it's about recognizing all the bad in the world and still trying hard to make it a better place. That definition feels inadequate, but it's the best I can come up with at the moment.
