1. From what I can tell the Democrats are doing the right thing connecting the upcoming funding bills to very specific and sensible reforms to ICE. Of course we want abolition, but this makes sense for this specific fight.
2. But there's one other thing I'd wish they'd do. I wish they would start articulating the demand that Trump or his cronies present some overall vision for their immigration policy. I want them to answer questions about economic impact, slower population growth, refugee status, the gamut.
3. Why? Because I think we have a real opportunity to finally -- FINALLY -- break free of the "border security" paradigm of immigration policy... the monstrosity that let Trump break through in the first place. I think Dems can use this wedge to do a lot more, but they have to play a long game, not just win the news cycle.
