I don't know too much about ATProto, but it seems that it doesn't give users proper decentralized identities. It seems that Nostr + an Inkan identity is a direct alternative to it.
Contrasting ATProto with https://www.inkan.cc may be a good way of framing the discussion about cold storage identities. I'll need to investigate.
