anyone own a whole home kohler standby generator?
happy with it?
is the extended warranty worth buying?
Have had a 30 kW Kohler automatic standby on a building for 17 years. It has run almost flawlessly, including through two hurricanes where power was out for 3 and 8 days. Maintenance has been minimal. It runs on natural gas.
Installed a 20 kW Cummins natural gas unit on another building recently. It also worked flawlessly during extended outages.
The phone apps and web interfaces are garbage on all of them.
They are very simple, basically just an engine and a generator. If you have a local Kohler service person, it might be worth getting the longer warranty. If not, I would prefer the flexibility of using a local service provider.
