I was just using Claude to install software for a new webcam I bought (non standard Linux install) and Claude helped me find a bug in the code.
Now I'm learning how to use GitHub so I can report the ...
claude is brilliant at systems administration and stuff like this. i've used it for installing drivers, installing difficult programs, it even found, downloaded and installed a strange slovakian JRPG game for me which i have yet to play with. i use it every day, at almost every step, to build and deploy to my VPS as well.
these things i could do by myself before, with varying degrees of success, but what i like about getting the LLM to do it, is that it can quickly determine if there is no way to make it work. the mediatek bluetooth/wifi chip in my vivobook was like this, and the hardware has been sold for over 2 years now, and still no linux support.
that magic "since two years" number made me totally sus, also, now i know about what a privacy dystopia bluetooth BLE is, the biggest reason you should not use apple mobile devices (iphone, airtag, headsets, etc) because they are snitches, literally if you firewall an iphone in, and someone shows up with an un-shielded iphone, it will p2p snitch on you through the other phone. that is no joke, by the way. google hardware now has this pretty much since about a year and most other android devices are in lockstep. the only way out, while having a modern phone now, is google pixels, which is so 🤮 but then, *someone* has to make a phone that you can flash another OS onto, or how would they even build them.
