i was already burning out then coldcard took out my legs
You’ve contributed so much, you owe us nothing—we owe you consideration, appreciation and space. We’ll be here doing what we do, probably less informed, occasionally mis-informed, dis-informed and very likely less free.
FWIW, my take on the ColdCard incident: it wasn’t intentional, but NVK knew, was responsible and likely took a calculated risk being first-to-market with innovative products.
I feel badly for those who lost corn, I really do, but I have you to thank I’m not one of them—along with countless others. EVERY business person takes calculated risks. In many industries people die before safety measures are taken because that’s when the learning occurs.
NVK should not have put you in the spot he did. I suspect rather than COINKITE taking an immediate body blow, NVK opted for a “wait and see, then we’ll deal with” position, bug reports typically “trickle” at first—rarely come as a tsunami (unless you’re MS 🙄) and waited …
… and waited … and waited … after five years I’d feel pretty safe wouldn’t you? Then, due to criminals’ use of a radical new technology, HODLrs and COINKITE got bit HARD and FAST. Hindsight’s 20/20 for Monday morning quarterbacks. I REALLY like COINKITE’s products.
The products didn’t become shit—they’re fixed. For me it comes down to NVK lacked and lacks humility and integrity, fucked up and took a loyal (and widely valued) friend out with him. On NVK’s integrity? He’s the CEO, it was his call so he has to take the hit and make good on this—somehow.
I say this publicly rather than privately because perspective is needed in this space. Thanks again ODELL.
