I was thinking on moving to your style of icon + text in horizontal and add the chat right there too. So, everything becomes a double pane design...
Because we will put a lot more things in that men...
The App Drawer tries to address that. Default now ships with 3-4 icons I think + More that opens app drawer to customize workspaces or open a screen/app.
I think that's the best navigation on a Desktop - 1) cmd + K for an easy search if you can't find an app + 2) custom workspaces (default, playing, reading, etc...)
