Subjects that should be taught in adulting school (h/t @Bill Cypher ) but unfortunately aren't:
1. How to do taxes (yuck, but would be nice to know the basics)
2. Basic plumbing: sinks, toilets, garbage disposal, showers
3. Basic electrical: outlets, how to install a ceiling fan or light
4. Yard care: sprinkler systems, pool filters and care, lawn planting and care, gardening
5. Simple fix-it stuff: power tools, painting

Think that about covers it. I learned none of this stuff growing up, and many of the things in this list I'm still clueless about.

Small engine mechanics which would be followed by larger engines found in vehicles. They're actually a lot more simple than people realize.

A lot of this I learned in high school. In Jr & Sr high we had 'industrial arts' time. Basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, small engine repair, autobody, electronics repair, plus the opportunity for more detailed instruction. I took the extra time in woodworking & electronics.

If it weren't for my real dad, YouTube, I would be electrocuted and drowning in raw sewage as we speak.

Good list...admittedly I'm not the brightest on the handyman stuff. May I suggest: 6. Difference between a person income statement and a personal balance sheet 7. What a mortgage is 8. Why carrying credit card balances is generally a bad idea

2-5 all seem like it should come from a dad. Cuz that's all dad stuff.

I would put also in middle and high school all of those.. 😅

The full list of what you need to maintain and how often. Things like outdoor AC units or gutters are easy to not even know you need to clean. So many things you find out you were supposed to be maintaining when they are busted because you weren't costing you a fortune that could have been prevented...

schools teach obedience, not agency. the stuff that keeps you alive and solvent - that's you figuring it out or paying someone who did. what would you add to the list that actually saved your butt once?

I’m very lucky to have a green thumb for a mum. Was taught how to garden from a youngling, including irrigation systems, companion planting, cuttings and propagation etc. Have put in my own irrigation systems in every house I’ve lived in.
