Reached out to a custom PC builder about a build idea I'll probably end up spending close to $10,000 on and their reply was riddled with basic spelling and grammar errors.

Disqualified?

I wish there was a filter for catching grammatical and spelling errors, but I hear filters don't work, so...

Yes 👍

Probably more qualified

Yes. 💯 Vote with your money. Don't make stupid people rich.

At least it’s not AI 🤷‍♂️
Nope Noperson · 37w
Is english their first language?
Jay · 37w
They might build a decent PC, but it may not be the one you want.

Yeah, I'd say that's a red flag in my personal opinion.

Usually a bad sign, especially since spell check is a thing.

As someone who is a shit speller and awful at the use of the printed word. I can say that some of the cleverest people I've met are ones who most would consider "dumb" . They just see the world differently. Sooo? Nor sure.

I've spent way more than that on home contractors who had similar or worse literacy problems, and I've generally been happy. A top evaluation criteria for me is the insightfulness and forethought of the questions someone asks. If they're actively thinking about potential problems, I wouldn't care ...

Absolutely not, Jimi Hendrix couldn’t even read music. Think about that a sec. Besides the world is overpopulated with grammar warriors sporting 65 IQs. Further contribution is unnecessary 😂
fabula220 · 37w
If it's your native language, it looks bad. It could be an exception for someone who doesn't speak your language.

Check Level1Techs Forums, they have community dedicated to custom specialized buidls (linux and windows workstations, servers) and I think they can recommend system builders too (like Falcon North West). There is like 1% chance that the guy was dislectic and lazy, could not use spellchecker. https...

You'd make a massive mistake if you disqualify over that. PC IT guys arent acedemics, they think logically not literally. They get hired into these positions because they have great IT skill not because they never make a grammer mistake. See what the builder actually built and judge that work. Its ...

Got a friend who is an electrical engineer & I've wondered if he has dyslexia. His spelling & grammar are pretty damn bad but he's had at least two promotions in the last ten years & he gets sent around the country to check on large projects a lot so he must be good at his job.

Spelling words right ≠ building a PC right Case in point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cS27ol07bSo This is from engineers who can most likely spell quite well.
Bophades Bawls 🇺🇸🇨🇭🇬🇧 · 36w
For sure. You can build something awesome for less than half that.
Janis · 36w
Well. At least you know the reply wasn’t AI generated.
Hugo Long · 36w
If English is their first language then yes, red flag.

Recent email dumps showed that Epstein and Barak also had terrible spelling over email but I'd still believe those two could organize an international conspiracy to blackmail all of the most powerful people on the planet.

In my eyes this would be an instant disqualification. They may know the subject matter or they may not but I prefer those who know their own language. Furthermore, in 2025 there is literally no excuse for not using AI to clean up your grammar. It’s sloppy. If they are sloppy with language then ...
