The only way to have a perfectly consistent creative project is to shut down creativity & experimentation, never take a single risk, & never think about anything other than what the audience will like...
Secretly I love Alien3 (although oooh boy, we could talk about studio meddling) because it's not what anyone expected from another Alien movie.
Is it flawed? Ohhhh yes, but would I be happier if they had just tried to copy Cameron's success from Aliens? Doubtful. Would have been "safer", for sure. Might have ended up a lot less uneven than Alien3, but would that really have been a "better" result vs. getting a flawed but creatively ambitious film?
