I would probably be supportive of preventing address reuse on the protocol level. Currently it's such a hard sell to tell people to not re-use addresses. I sell bitcoins and most of my trading partner...

In my view the answer is not to prevent address reuse. Rather, it’s adopting a wallet address system that eliminates it as a possibility.

I genuinly thought all wallets do this. How do you even get a wallet software that does not do that for you? WTF

You mean some interactive scheme? Or reusable payment codes? The trade-offs are real. There are still exchanges that will only give you one receive address - a P2PKH address.
