I don't doubt that they (or you) have good intentions. I do think that more husn al dhan could be applied though as, sure they don't know our certainty but it doesn't come off well with it being contantly questioned. It's like the "how did you become Muslim?" question. Obviously, well intented but at the same time clearly rude.

Fantastic. The article covered it really well. I understand it now, thanks. Unfortunately, given that conversion itself a big event in anyone's life, the question won't stop. Maybe take the question to an intellectual answer would satisfy both sides? I'm just wondering.
