here's one more before I go to bed. this time the camera's 1000 meters above the surface rather than just 2 meters. also looking a touch upward

i might switch to a deformed grid instead of a deformed tessellated cone so the math of animating the vertices sweeping by is simpler. originally it was all meant to be stationary but i want to see this move now :O that'll be a project for another night though
