Ok I’m intrigued… what is pokey and why should I be excited? (Using Damus on iOS for reference atm)

I use @primal and it doesn't deliver iOS notifications right now. @nos has notifications that pop through since I'm logged in there too, but Nos alerts often don't come if I don't open the Nos iOS app during the day. I run a relay, but I don't use android. I presume there's nothing in Pokey for me yet?

Yeah we send background notifications and then it triggers the app to silently check relays for those events. iOS restricts opening up apps in the background based on how often the user opens it in the foreground. Open Nos on a semi regular basis then apple will let it get all of your notifications....
