Yes, but limiting it to the family is the error. I live in a healthy village in a healthy county in a healthy state. A large part of the Bavarian economy is unpaid labor or low-paid volunteer effort. It's one major reason why we're so wealthy and everything is so pleasant and lovely and safe.
But we are beginning to have pockets in larger cities, where there is a lack of volunteering, and those places are visibly deteriorating. Those are low-trust environments, where people only work for money, and it is visible.
