Generate a Seed Phrase: 4 Offline Secure Methods
https://seedkeys.xyz/how-to-generate-a-seed-phrase/

I was in the middle of writing a piece on how to safely dispose of a seed phrase when the Coldcard news broke. I don't even own a Coldcard, but it still rattled me.

Because I could easily have been on that list of drained wallets. I had been trusting a single wallet provider as well, basically since I got into Bitcoin.

*I now set up a multi-sig wallet after postponing for years.* ๐Ÿ˜Ž

It pushed me to dig into the alternative: generating a seed phrase manually from real physical randomness that you can watch and verify.

There are solid resources out there, but I couldn't find one article that pulled together the reliable methods in one place. So I wrote one.

It covers coin flips, dice, playing cards, and Penlock.

If you've been meaning to create a new wallet with entropy you can actually verify, I hope this helps.

Feedback welcome.

Useful consolidation, especially the checksum retry step that beginners can easily misunderstand. I would put a boxed advanced-workflow warning before the table of contents: practice with an empty/test wallet, then do a full wipe/restore and small receive/send test before meaningful funds. A tiny 1...

Please note that not all methods are equal: -> Coins can have a 10โ€“20% bias, resulting in ~110 bits of entropy (~10.3 words worth). -> Non-casino dice can have a 5โ€“10% bias, resulting in ~119 bits of entropy (~11.15 words worth). -> Tiles/cards have about a 1โ€“2% bias, resulting in ~126 bits o...
