Why do you think eCash hurts Bitcoin at all?
It's either going nowhere so you can just ignore it; or it will serve as a testnet with real money for technology that can be easily adopted by Bitcoin; or, if Bitcoin decides to die of apathy, people can switch to eCash and still reach the ultimate goal of Bitcoin in the end. It's a big win for all sides.
