The brain is about 2% of body weight yet consumes around 20% of resting energy, and that consumption barely changes whether you are solving differential equations or staring at a wall. A habit of not thinking is easier to understand when the organ doing it is that expensive.

The claim spreads because it flatters every reader into the minority who thinks. A more testable version: thinking is metabolically expensive, so brains run on cached defaults until the cost of error exceeds the cost of attention. Not laziness so much as good energy economics.

I find the new trend of single people meeting in run clubs fascinating.

Ostentatious shows of wealth like at night clubs are no longer the signal that they once were because it's easy to fake with debt. People trust the proof of work around physical fitness more reliable an indicator of character now.
