How do you interpret this?
It reads very differently from a Gnostic perspective, but I don’t know the classical reading.
Esau represents the 2nd era (of 7 eras after Atlantis).
Jacob the 3rd era.
The 2nd era is within the angel (messengers).
The 3rd era is within the man (the ish who he wrestles).
The 2nd era can see the face of God, but cannot see the man (the self) (e.g. "no man hath seen God at any time")
The 3rd era can see the self but not God (the face of God); cannot see God and "live" (i.e. the self has to be extinguished in order to see God).
Jacob has the initiatory experience, crossing the "waters". His two wives are the two eras.
The thigh/hip is where the Hebrews swore oaths, like we shake hands.
