The Open Markets Foundation exists to advance decentralized commerce by supporting open, interoperable, and permissionless marketplaces built on Nostr, Bitcoin, and sovereign digital infrastructure.
Our mission is to help transform scattered experimentation into a coordinated movement: one where builders, merchants, developers, and users can gather around shared standards, open protocols, and practical tools for free and decentralized trade.
## Purpose
Decentralized commerce needs more than individual projects. It needs coordination, education, standards, credibility, and long-term stewardship.
The Open Markets Foundation aims to serve as a neutral home for that work.
Rather than acting as a controlling authority, the foundation’s role is to support the ecosystem around open markets. It exists to help align independent builders, encourage collaboration, promote shared specifications, and make decentralized commerce easier to build, understand, and adopt.
## Vision
We believe the future of commerce should be open, global, censorship-resistant, and user-sovereign.
Markets should not depend on centralized platforms, closed payment rails, or permissioned infrastructure. Builders should be able to create merchant tools, marketplace clients, commerce protocols, and payment experiences that interoperate freely.
The Open Markets Foundation envisions an ecosystem where commerce applications can compete on user experience while cooperating on open standards.
