@nprofile1q... And we now have "AI-powered" drinks machines that predict what you want to drink instead of you just choosing something.

'Imagine walking into a bar where your cocktail is not just selected from a static menu but dynamically generated based on your personal preferences, past orders, and even real-time biometric data.

AI-driven mixology platforms are already doing thisoffering bespoke, adaptive drinking experiences that redefine personalization at scale.' https://barsys.com/blog/the-algorithmic-cocktail-how-ai-is-rewriting-the-future-of-drinking/

Client messages me: "Login isn't working! Fix it immediately!" - followed by a string of complaints about how it can't just stop working "all of a sudden" on a Saturday morning. I ask for their login...

@nprofile1q... Reminds me of this story from the venerable site Rinkworks:

'Once I got called to the office of a co-worker (let's call him Joe User) to help him figure out his username (he knew his password).

Me: "Your username is 'Joe User'."
Him: "Unacceptable! How much am I supposed to remember? I can only remember a certain number of things."
Me: "Wouldn't one of those things be your name?"
Him: "I guess I'll have to write it down."

He proceeded to write his own name on a sticky note and attach it to his monitor.'

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... I particularly winced at

"This has resulted in (understandable) backlash against advances in AI that range from various types of enclosure to simply not sharing at all."

No, no, no. If you're using the metaphor of creative "commons" then you should be very deliberate about how you use the word "enclosure".

Me defending my stuff against AI scraping is not 'enclosure'. It is the AI companies who are doing the modern enclosure of the commons, trying to use LLMs to hoover up all the currently commonly held goods and turn them into a private resource that they control access to.

(With the same government support as in the 17th century and the same sort of argument - because otherwise the new industry would not be viable.)
