That writing does bring back the feel of it. I'm thankful to be reminded of how it feels. It is a such a good picture of how I may also view those times where I am aware of my lack of clear understanding. It would be so good to relish that experience as well and derive the benefit of finding myself in it.

slrn sounds familiar. Back in the late 90s I used usenet. The first time was when I needed info to get my XFree86 working on my first Linux install. I used slrn because console was all I had. I don't remember how I learned to use it and don't know how now. I don't recall the rest of what you have there. I do have the gray hairs.

This reminds me of my first semester of college. I had taken 2 years of French in high school and took a test before college that said I could skip into a second year French class. It was conversational French. First meeting they were all speaking it and I was not understanding and so out of it. I managed to get a "C" Horrible experience. For some strange reason I did not understand what the "conversational" would imply.
