@nprofile1q... Way back in the day, when undergraduate projects were in Fortran IV, the big issue in computer science was how to make calculations more efficient. But they gave up on that and threw memory and power at it. Bloatware running on bloatmachines.

@nprofile1q... The answer is simple. Instead of one light above each picture, place two lights above, one at each side. Hey presto, no reflections. But more cost, more work.

Seriously, wheelchair users have enough to contend with, with whatever caused them to need the chair in the first place, without thoughtlessness where there’s an easy fix.

@nprofile1q... The particular one I’m thinking of was nicely lit for most standing heights, but hopeless for someone seated. I left a snottogram in the visitors’ book and also mentioned it to a member of staff.

@nprofile1q... We ran a video company from our rural home. The location was handy to deliver tapes to the city. We sent broadcasters full bandwidth sports highlights on a 512k up “broadband” connection, sending in chunks so that if one failed we’d have less to redo. We’d start in the afternoon after the edit, and first thing next morning I’d rush into the office to see what had failed, and restart it before deadline. Fibre rolled out here after we retired.
