It doesn't have to be a landslide. The fact that 50% of the population think religion and authoritarianism are good, is really sad.

Lots of people want to believe that god is on their side.

And apparently lots of people want a dictatorial, daddy-like authoritarian in office, it keep them safe, and to control "those" people.

Based on recent elections, this about 50% of the population.

Maybe xenophobia and superstition are built into our genes.

Just to be clear, he wasn't hunting elephants (this time). It was antelopes.

It sees to me that hunting with a high-power, long distance weapon isn't actually very sporting. It doesn't say anything about your personal attributes or capabilities. It just says that you own a piece of kit.

Better to do it the old-fashioned way, chasing the antelope in the hot sun for kilometers until either you or it finally collapse in exhaustion.
