That's interesting. In our case, we both already have NextCloud installed.

You can already sync the NextCloud server with DavX5 which meshes with the calendar app. For offline use (on the phone).

If you used the Radicale approach, maybe you don't need NextCloud?

Like the services I really wanted was to curate photos, which it actually doesn't do very well.

I use DAVx5 (app) to sync nextcloud and the calendar app. So I can enter info offline.

I guess you would need a local calendar laptop app to do the same on the laptop.

What exactly is your VPN solution? There didn't seem to be a standard one when I was researching. I decided to just use TailScale because they seemed to know what they were doing.

Also have the possibility of using Pangolin, but they are a much smaller entity.

I guess it's not officially Nextcloud. But it works with DAVx5.

It's called Fossify Calendar and is available on FDroid and the Playstore.
