@dissident

I am a liberal socialist who is opposed to the right-leaning Westminster government and to the archaic, undemocratic political system by which it was handed power. I live in Scotland and support the campaign for Scottish independence. I support the right to peaceful protest. Nuclear weapons are not a deterrent; they are a means to our swift annihilation. If unchecked, climate change is the slower path to the same end.

While Reform can't win outright, they may be asked to form a government.

Discounting devolved regions, the English vote could be split fairly equally between Lab, Con, Green, LD and Reform.

Reform might receive the most votes of those five and form a coalition with the Tories?

While accidents (almost by definition) are to some extent random... the structural causes (from social context to the lived environment) actually skew people's actual propensity to die in an accident....

@nprofile1q... An interesting article which as usual largely ignores #Scotland despite accidental deaths there being higher than anywhere else in the UK. Surely, that's the big news, not that the NE of England has a higher rate than London?!

@nprofile1q... The #ScottishGreens are also vociferously opposing UK involvement in Trump's destruction of the Middle East. Their position on the matter is notably stronger than that of the #SNP. Whilst I will always vote tactically in FPTP elections, I find myself increasingly more aligned with Green than yellow political thinking.

@nprofile1q... This will surely have considerable impact on professions that tend to be staffed by migrants; the NHS for example? People will simply decline to come to work in an increasingly racist country that offers them no long-term security in life.

@nprofile1q... The wreckers are the many millions of American citizens who handed Trump office, again. This time he won the popular vote and democracy has delivered what the majority voted for.

The United States of America has crossed the event horizon and is heading for a new reality. Perhaps the states will functionally disunite, becoming individual nation states? Or perhaps they'll form alliances with like-minded neighbours? Whatever, the USA (and the world) are entering a new epoch.

@nprofile1q... Yes, I do totally agree that it's 'small fry' compared to what's happening elsewhere. Labour should however be resurrecting the Nolan Principles from the irrelevance that they became under the last Government. Rightly or wrongly, 'errors' in tax that amount to sums greater than many workers' salaries, are perceived as 'more of the same'.

@nprofile1q... I'm not sure that the issue is as 'black and white' as this. Individuals have a duty to 'take reasonable care' in matters of taxation. If one is in any doubt then they should seek the advice of a tax advisor or HMRC.

I suspect that it probably wasn't deliberate, but she clearly did not take reasonable care. In my opinion, the failure to do so is unacceptable behaviour for someone in such a senior government position.

This is a massive waste of police time and resources. Some Forces have chosen to embrace this purely political pursuit, and it won't be forgotten.

The old line of "Haven't they got something better to do, like solving crime or preventing real terrorism?" springs to mind.
