Top three questions I got at #railsworld:
Q: Does Rails work on JRuby?
A: Yes, for 20 years now.
Q: Didn't JRuby already solve this?
A: Yes.
Q: Why aren't you speaking here?
A: I tried. Ask the organizers.

@nprofile1q... Ignoring the potential for specifying strict integer ranges, my understanding is that jump-on-overflow operations would generally be branch-predicted away. It's a small hit to that prediction budget, perhaps. Floats don't have any overflow.

@nprofile1q... It's just the (very large) RubyString class in JRuby (jruby/jruby). It might have finished the task eventually, but it was taking far too long and doing it the slowest way possible (moving a method or two at a time from abstract to concrete). This was GPT-5.3-Codex FWIW.

I don't know how Windows users tolerate it at this point. I'm trying to install Windows 11 on a fairly recent, mainstream machine here. It won't recognize the SSD without additional drivers. The drivers are only distributed as an exe file.
