I live in Amsterdam, with a car, and my wife even uses it quite regularly, but I have absolutely no complaints about Amsterdam's autoluw policies. The city keeps getting better.

Cars are fine if you need to get out of the city, to a place that has no easy train station. But into the city center? Or any part of the city that's less than 5km away? That's not what cars are for. They're a plague on the city.

Interesting perspective. So how do you make it possible for anyone to modify the software? If average users never had the know-how to do this, and programs even getting too big for even experienced programmers to easily understand and modify, what is even the point of a license that allows it?

Ultimately it's not just about the legal permission to modify it, but about the physical ability to do it. The skill, knowledge and expertise, that most users lack. Often I wish some application was put together differently, but I'm not going to put in the time to learn and understand that code base.

So in light of Linus' announcement that Linux is not going to be anti-AI, I now find myself wondering if AI could be the solution to it. Dangerous of course, to have users vibe-coding their own modifications. But now I'm wondering if open source projects could include the tools and context files to make this viable.

AI is not popular among the whole open source community, but now I find myself wondering if it could turn out to be the missing key to enable users to take more control over their system. Not sure what to think about it, but the goal is interesting.

I will never understand how Labour manages to continue to fuck up. 10 years of ridiculous Tory clown show, and Labour couldn't even manage a decent opposition. Determined to be Tory-light, apparently.

I've felt for a long time that English voters should replace the Tories with the LibDems and Labour with the Greens. That would do the country a lot of good.

But I hope Andy Burnham is finally going to be better.

European governments and sensitive private infrastructure (like banks, healthcare, etc) should not be using US cloud providers at all. It's been blatantly obvious that they're legally unable to obey our laws, and under Trump, that conflict has become a lot more urgent.

Yeah. I wouldn't mind a remake, because the story that they tell, is really good. By far the best part of the prequels is the machinations of Palpatine in the background, manipulating both sides of a war in order to seize power. Twice. That's a great story that deserves to be told better.

Can we do this as an Andor-style remake that really dives into the politics of it?

I find Episode 1 the least watchable. It just hurts to watch it. 2 is perfectly watchable if you don't pay too much attention to the plot holes.

I really don't understand why people are upset about this particular PR. Yes, the age verification law is stupid, but this is by far the best way to handle it. It's optional, and puts users in control. Other age verification schemes have involved privacy-invading measures like uploading id documents or facial scanning, both of which are completely unacceptable.

Putting the user in control is good. Parents can enter a birthdate on the accounts for their children without compromising their child's identity. And that's the only thing that really matters.

There are people who complain that this is unreliable, but what existing age verification is more reliable than this? The only other acceptable method is for governments to provide an online e-ID service where a user's age can be verified anonymously, and I haven't heard of any government providing that yet. Failing that, this sounds to me like the only way to do it.

Can consumer organizations appeal this? Antitrust is supposed to protect consumer interests. This is explicitly punishing the consumer for something they have no control over.
