Volkswagen blocked their app on GrapheneOS, LineageOS, and other custom ROMs.

They claim it's for "security" because the app now relies on Google's Play Integrity API and certified Android standards.

Meanwhile, the same app still works fine on Android 10 devices that stopped getting security updates years ago.

Probably just lazy devs. They assume Google protection is good and they also want to support older devices the same way some companies want to support internet explorer. I own a modern VW and I can say Android Auto never really worked very well. I like the cars, hate their technology. Even their self driving is ass. I rent quite a bit of cars, and I do like VW but they can’t compete with navigation, smart phone integration or self drive. Laughably bad.
