@nprofile1q... i am attempting to start my own business for the express aim of being able to find and train someone to take over my position at my job, to help expand my boss's company, and give myself extra free time. but unfortunately it will probably be someone at least semi-local to my area for tax and regulatory purposes. the main reason why people move is for work, and if you can't find work, the best way is to be able to move somehow. the reason it's difficult is why it lets you find work, i know it's not feasible for everyone and shouldn't be that way, but sometimes fields are fallow and they just can't produce enough. my great great grandfather or whatever came over from ireland due to the potato famine I think, so you could say it's in my blood maybe

@woodland creature i think that trajectory is because it has already been seized and molded into that form by people with power. i can be generous and attribute it to incompetence and subconscious aims rather than deliberate acts, but nonetheless it is already co-opted and I don't think it will be our salvation.

i was doing more thinking and i really don't see the federal or state governments ever abdicating their power through peaceful or altruistic means, which only leaves catastrophic external means (or at least partially catastrophic means) which I think explains why I really think that we are headed for a catastrophic event that i should be prepared for.

but I don't know how to prepare, do I just make myself as light and mobile as possible to hopefully escape as quickly as possible? do I try to get ahead of the curve and make preparations to be as far away as possible? or do i try to find a way to dig in and make myself as resilient as possible? i don't know what i should be doing, and I guess I will never know until it's in hindsight in which it might already be too late.

i feel a lot of the ai conversation is a distraction like everything else to give extra buffer to preparations that only the elites know about, or maybe they don't and are just grabbing at whatever they can get. i really do think something is coming down the pipe though

@woodland creature ai has already been seized by those who crave power so i really don't think a mechanism controlled by those in power is a viable solution, the agi doesn't currently exist and there are absolutely massive power incentives to pass off an ai system as agi. we're past solutions using powerful systems to combat other powerful systems, the only path forward to truly fix things is to implement a system that actively rejects, removes and frees power, otherwise it is just a stopgap solution. the benefit is that our power ultimately comes through ourselves (from an ultimate source that people commonly call god, etc) so it will always be a losing game. trying to usurp god with false gods is blasphemous to me, and i think it doesn't even need a specific religious frame for that case to be made. i don't think that it being blasphemous means an instant curse or evil, i think it could last for a long time, but more along the lines of that it will always be ultimately doomed. is there really a difference between a so called agi (idk what asi stands for) and just stanning peter thiel as the lord and savior and antichrist? i don't really believe so, especially when people like that currently have direct control over ai systems as you've mentioned previously. in practical terms, even if agi becomes a totally independent source of truth, it will still need to be created by human hands somehow and that merely shifts the power into those hands unless it's truly divinely emergent. i don't think waiting for a god to be born will be our salvation

@woodland creature that's true, i like balkanization but ultimately we just need a mechanism where laws are incentivized to be removed from the books instead of just continually added, because otherwise we will be guaranteed to have a monotonically increasing amount of laws until the entire thing becomes impossible
