Quintessential distro-hopper, but running Slackware for over 3 years now. And counting. No issues with FreeBSD, Gentoo or Arch either. Prefer bare bones rolling. Into atomics and init systems also.

Order restored. Experimental KDE by @nprofile1q... Flatpaks as applications. Kernel 7.0. Slacker0ni repo for all goodies. Homebrew and/or distrobox possible also. As immutable as a mutable distro gets.

@nprofile1q... Quickly browsing the file list suggests it doesn't install anything snap related. From the minimal install that is. My guess from a 'normal' install is it would invoke the snap version. Using apt install firefox still gets you the snap. But in Discover only the flatpak is visible.

Hidden pleasures. Kubuntu 26.04 beta is available. And I like it. Why?
Do a minimal install, not normal or full. You get Plasma 6.6.4, Wayland only, Linux 7.0. Open Discover: snap is not enabled ootb and the checkbox to enable flatpak is available from the get-go. The overall system clocks in around 1.2Gb. Kudos to the team, in one go Kubuntu has been pushed to the front of the KDE queue. Clearly the Linux Mint or Zorin of KDE, and that is meant as a compliment.

@stu Oh, and when you want to be one of the really cool kids follow this: https://it-notes.dragas.net/2025/12/22/void-linux-zfs-hibernation-guide/ by @nprofile1q... (yes, yes, the bsd.cafe barista) and setup zfs et al, according to this great tutorial. And don't shortcut with the script ☺️, do it manually, step by step, it is a great learning experience. Used that on my work laptop for two months. Either way, enjoy the Thinkpad!

@stu VoidLinux is a great distro. It requires some reading (mainly bcs it uses runit), but it is all pretty well documented. I can recommend this vid (by a Vietnamese guy 😅), that helped me a lot last time: https://youtu.be/iYszYEMoivY?si=X0mtgQRtF9Fn6wFv

And search for jake@linux on YT, he has a ton of good videos on VoidLinux!

Simplified slstatus to what I actually use. Keybinds for applications back from sxhkd into config.def.h. Keys good again, VoidLinux updated. Thanks to the collective hangover after Tet I could do all this at work. Productive (finally) 😜

VoidLinux to the rescue.
Obviously that LUKS, dracut and bin kernel was a glorious PITA on Gentoo.
But..... VoidLinux has everything I want, a tutorial that actually worked was found quickly and now dwm 6.8, st and dmenu all compiled gloriously. Let the patching begin. Remember, this time I wanted to start from zero, Unfortunately I have to work tomorrow 🤣 so this will have to wait to later in the week. But this feels very appropriate for the ThinkPad. Beer time 🍻 on a job well done 😆
