Cared for my wife from 2017-23. Alzheimer's is terminal, progressive, and devastating for all concerned. J now lives in 24/7 care. 😭

While dying, dad told us his dad & gran were Aboriginal, calling his grandparents a combo - an illegal mixed couple. Who knew? Not me. True? No idea. Yet. I toot as a white man, & benefit from the privilege that brings in Australia. I live on Darug land.

To be clear for those who only read outraged headlines (not these headlines, this is balanced), it's not going to allow driving stoned. It will allow medicinal cannabis users to legally drive while sober, even if traces are detected days/weeks since use.

Given the science says inactive metabolites have no impact on driver behaviour, IMO, it's a positive change that could go further.

Searching gives three options. One doesn't taste good, makes you sick, & despite its name isn't hallucinogenic, another tastes awful & kills trees, but is edible, & the one I think is the winner is often mistaken as edible, but is poisonous. It doesn't matter, obviously I'm not sampling. 😵‍💫🤢👻

I'm lucky enough to charge at home—I plug in immediately, & charge to 80%, unless it's only down <5%.

That means I'm nearly always able to jump straight in & drive up to 300km without notice, unless I'm *in no state*.

For trips I'd start at 100%, be thinking about a charge at 50%, & planning to get a charge by 30%, maybe 20% 😱 Looking up locations, availability, speeds etc.

Commuting, I'd learn good spots en route, know my consumption, start at 80% & happily go to 20%.

J was adamant I wasn't to tell our adult kids her diagnosis. I felt awful for doing what she asked, then awful for not telling them until they noticed, then guilty I'd broken her trust. It's really complex.

I remember the dreadful pain of seeing capable, intelligent J being unable to complete *the test.* I was reeling in shock.

I too doubt I'll ever get over what's happened to J. Too much awfulness to ever forget. It's still ongoing, & I'm already broken.

It's complex. Very complex, & hard. J had pneumonia early January, & it was very confronting as docs discussed end of life arrangements. Fortunately, I not only knew her wishes, but treatment worked & she fully recovered. It reminded me that the end draws closer, & as you say, so many thoughts & feelings.

All the best. It's a beautiful location, with the mountains gazing down.
