@nprofile1q... andere perspektive: wenn die modelle wirklich so potent und gefährlich sind, wie uns die AI-bros glauben machen wollen, dann ist der vorfall das äquivalent dafür, daß in einem biolab ein gefährliches virus auskommt -- und damit wäre die korrekte reaktion nicht "boah was für ein geiles killervirus", sondern "sperrt die bude zu, da sie ihre sicherheitsmaßnahmen nicht im griff haben".

Regarding the car -- I was talking about the bare minimum, very old and might break down any minute. A nice used car with many years of useful life left would start at about 10x that.

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... median income in Austria is about €2300/mo, it's not like we're swimming in money like our swiss neighbors 😉 -- for comparison, those €1000 would buy you a beater car that's good for a year or two, or a month's rent for a family apartment in the city. But the inverter is an investment, so in the big scheme of things I consider this cheapish.

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... I might be too much of a nerd to fit that "everyone", but for me talking about solar naturally includes all the components. Panels are no good if they aren't hooked to anything, after all. And inverters really aren't a limiting factor here, the huawei hybrid thingy I've got is about €1000 for an 8kW unit.

@nprofile1q... Oh, you have to manually switch over? The systems I know either run in parallel to the grid, so they compensate for loads while there's energy in the battery, or (less common) the whole installations is behind the inverter and it does automatically disconnect from the grid when that goes off; which it does about once every year for a few minutes, at most. That also means should I ever need more power than my inverter can deliver, the rest comes from the grid.

I'm running my whole house (no aircon, but an EV as a big load) off of solar for eight months of the year, and I'm pretty sure I could do that with 6kW of inverter power, too. Most people I know do that, but battery size definitely influences what loads you can run overnight.
