i greatly appreciate this. unfortunately the effect of this at scale is probably something like the Israelis seizing custodial bitcoin, torturing and killing Palestinian holders of non-custodial bitcoin, and lobbying (bribing) US politicians to designate bitcoin as a “terrorist funding mechanism...

"Hello to the entire Nostr and Agora community. I am a final-year Computer Engineering student and a Venezuelan activist for human rights in the digital era. Today, I am reaching out to you regarding a critical emergency.
Following the recent devastating earthquakes, I have been working tirelessly in the disaster zone alongside my university's rescue teams to save as many lives as possible, especially in La Guaira, the most severely affected area.

However, as an IT specialist, I quickly realized a barrier that is costing lives: a total lack of connectivity.

In La Guaira, there is no electricity, let alone cellular service.

This absolute blackout makes it impossible for rescue teams, doctors, volunteers, and the victims themselves to communicate or coordinate relief efforts.

La Guaira has over 100 shelters, and at least half of them remain in a total information blackout, with no internet access whatsoever.

We are doing the absolute best we can, but the road ahead is incredibly long. That is why it is crucial to gather as much support as possible from this community. The funds raised in this campaign will go entirely toward purchasing more

Starlink antennas to connect the most vulnerable shelters and streamline rescue operations.

In the midst of a tragedy, information and communication save lives. Every zap and contribution counts! ⚡️"

"In the shelters in Vargas, Caracas, and Carabobo, there are children who lost their parents or their homes in the earthquake. Project Smile works directly in these shelters, bringing toys, activities, and support to those in the most vulnerable situations. It’s not just about delivering supplies—it’s about a sustained presence: someone who returns to the same shelter, who knows the children by name, who gives them a space to be children amid the chaos.

Why now?
"In an emergency, attention goes first to what’s urgent: rescue, healthcare, shelter. But children who have lost their parents—or who have been in a shelter for weeks—carry trauma that can’t wait. The longer they go without intervention, the harder it is to process the loss and disruption. Proyecto Sonrisa is already in the shelters—what’s needed is to sustain that presence over time, not just a one-time visit.

How are the funds used?
- Toys and activity materials (art supplies, group games, sensory items for children in shock or mourning)
- Transportation of supplies between shelters in Vargas, Caracas, and Carabobo
- Basic kits for children, based on the needs reported by each shelter
- Sustaining recurring visits, not just a one-time delivery

Your contribution supports these visits—not just once, but every week.

"We are doctors and nurses from Universidad de Carabobo. Our volunteer medical teams are deployed across Carabobo, Yaracuy, Caracas, and Vargas — areas where public health infrastructure collapsed or became unreachable following the June 2025 earthquakes.

These brigades provide consultations, first aid, and emergency triage directly in affected communities. Each field day includes preventive health talks and an on-site pharmacy for participants.

Funds cover field operations: fuel, team mobilization, coordination, and supplies for each brigade. Every contribution goes directly to the ground — received via Bitcoin Silent Payments, with receipts published on Nostr."
