"I tried building my startup entirely on European infrastructure. Here's the stack I landed on, what was harder than expected, and what you still can't avoid."

We need more stories like this being shared in the open. You can criticise some parts of the decisions here, but that's not the point. Someone tried and shared. That's the point.

TIL (Today I learned): The typefaces Eurostile/Microgramma and Handel Gothic are not only used by Casio on many watches and calculators from the 1970s to at least the 1990s, these typefaces are also used in many (and I mean MANY) science fiction movies and TV series. From 2001 via Alien to Star Trek and many more. See the wonderful replies at https://social.wildeboer.net/@jwildeboer/116079648938846660 where typography nerds shared interesting knowledge :)

I don't want anyone to spend too much money. But damn. As a coffee drinker I must admit that the Moccamaster from TechniVorm makes the best damn coffee this here household has ever produced. It is an investment for life, though. It is overpriced. By magnitudes. But for me — totally worth it. No, I don't get paid to say this. I struggled for weeks to justify the cost to myself. But being Dutchie, the road was paved ;) (unrelated picture of my bicycle)

@nprofile1q... Ich arbeite seit 20 Jahren für eine Open Source Firma (Red Hat). Und habe viele Gespräche mit deutschen Unis geführt. Das war immer ernüchternd. "Wieviel Rabatt geben sie für eine Campuslizenz? Adobe/Microsoft geben 80%." "Uhm. Wir machen Open Source, also 100%. Sie können sofort loslegen." "Herr Wildeboer, sie verstehen das nicht. So wird hier nicht gearbeitet." Etwas überspitzt, aber nicht viel. Da hat sich grundsätzlich wenig geändert.
