The fallout of the Debian vote on LLMs is indicative of the disconnect between users and coders, in my opinion. The vote was by developers, not users. Developers that do the hard work in the background, always open to things that make their work easier. We can discuss if coding LLMs do or don’t help, but I respect the developers for their opinions. Users can complain all they want. But they should listen to what the developers are saying. Because their work makes their user experience possible.

The reason I won't post a shelfie (a picture of my shelf with books I own) is that quite some of the books I own will cause aggressive discussions because I like to have controversial books in my collection. Just because I own these books that do deliver hateful messages doesn't mean I support them. Quite the opposite. But I want to know what "they" are reading. Mainly to make sure I can counter their "arguments". This does not go down well on social networks.

20+ years ago, I was at the heart of the fight against the introduction of software patents in the EU. And there was one book that we only had as a low-quality scan in PDF. The 1971 „Industrialization without national patents“ by Eric Schiff. A book that is still hard to get. But over the years I managed to get a reprint from the Princeton Legacy library … and the original 1st edition from 1971 that was hiding in the Washington DC library of the International Monetary Fund.

It's a NEI :( That's democracy. Iceland seems to have decided that they don't want to restart the process of negotiations on joining the EU. That's their freedom. I wished for a different result, but I fully respect their decision. We will still be friends, I hope.

Ah, I get the Meta $17B thing now. Big tech doesn't like EU regulations because they are, well, from the EU and have to be followed once implemented. They much prefer to pay a bit of money to be allowed to write the rules themselves. Because that's what the US deal effectively is. Meta pays $1.2B per year in exchange for being left alone and come up with some soft rules that they get to implement and control themselves.

Google allowing spam/phishing mails to be sent using their domain name google.com from their bc.googleusercontent.com range is a new low in my book. I block every sender from that range for reasons. And this is the most embarrassing one. For Google.

Dear friends from #Iceland. Tomorrow you will vote on restarting the EU membership application process. It is a big decision and I know you had your reasons to halt the process back in 2013. We are not perfect. We have our problems. But we also have quite a lot to offer and I hope you will decide to take an honest look again. I would really love to welcome you in the EU family!

Slowly, but surely, my brain is moving "Sovereign" to the "nationalist" and "isolationist" drawer and I note that I prefer to think and say "autonomy" instead. #JustSayin
