@silverpill @Phantasm okay cool, that's good to know. Akkoma's search is global, and in fact I have a manually curated follow account where I follow a bunch of news sources which are less relevant than what I want on my timeline, to keep the database populated (I don't use relays at this point).

@Phantasm @silverpill I'm curious how much of the functionality is or isn't dictated by "needs to work with the Mastodon front end"

@silverpill @Phantasm interesting, I do get more than 20 (and more than 40) results on another Mastodon instance... I suppose the next question is, can I raise that limit on my Akkoma instance.

@silverpill @Phantasm my experience with the non-chronological ordering is on Akkoma with RUM indexes enabled. but on the Mastodon instance I'm posting from, if I search for something extremely common like "food" and click Posts, I can scroll down to a max of 20 results.

@silverpill @Phantasm the reason I'm asking is I'm trying to decide which platform software to use on my single-user news & politics instance which currently runs Akkoma.

I can live with not-great search on my other alts, but for that one I want good search because frequently I'll see a news story I want to boost or discuss, but I search for stories from other outlets which are better written or the posts better formatted.

I'm just posting to say I'm somebody who might use that while having one/both boxes unchecked at times ... simplest use case I can think of is people who want to take themselves out of $platform_app default search box "for a while" (like maybe after participating in a hellthread 😒) but don't want to be immediately de-indexed from Holos Discover or ignored by the tag boost service.)

stop trying to impose your need for a custom hugbox on everyone around you; it won't end well for you
